Final Registration closes on August 27th to ensure uniforms are received before first games.
Program Details
Our recreational softball program is available for players in grades K-8. Seasons occur in the Spring and Fall, with clinics in the winter and summer. Games are played against other New Fairfield teams as well as towns from the surrounding area. Skill building, broad participation, and enjoyment are the goals of recreational softball.
Ages/Grades
Recreational age group placement will generally be made using Babe Ruth Softball birthday cutoffs (1/1 - 12/31). The corresponding school grades are in parenthesis. Initial placement will be made according to birthdate. Movement between age groups will only be made if registration numbers dictate a need to field teams and will then be based on school grade to keep classmates together.
- 6U: 1/1/2018 - 12/31/2019 (K-1st)
- 8U: 1/1/2016 - 12/31/2017 (2nd-3rd)
- 10U: 1/1/2014 - 12/31/2015 (4th-5th)
- 12U: 10/1/2010 - 12/31/2013 (6th-8th)
When
Spring: April-June

Practices
6U & 8U: 1 practice per week
10U & up: up to 2 practices per week based on field and coach availability
Games
Recreational teams will have one game per week, usually on Saturdays. Games will be against recreational teams from local towns (some travel required). Factors such as weather and availability may require games to occasionally be played during the week.
Uniforms
NF Softball will provide each player with a uniform shirt and a pair of socks.
Parents need to provide a pair of solid black softball pants.
Players must be in full uniform for each game (Black softball pants, team shirt, team socks, cleats)
Instructional Pitching
Opportunities will be available for instructional pitching from professional coaches for ages 10U & up.
Equipment
Each player will need to provide the following:
- Softball Glove
- Cleats - plastic/molded, no metal
- Helmet with cage
- Fielder's Mask
- Bat
- Batting gloves (optional)
